About Hobie Island Beach Park
Hobie Island Beach Park (also known as Windsurfer Beach) is a small but beloved beach tucked along the Rickenbacker Causeway between Miami and Key Biscayne. Unlike Miami's ocean-facing beaches, Hobie Island sits on Biscayne Bay, offering warm, shallow water that rarely goes above waist-deep for hundreds of feet offshore. This makes it one of the best spots in Miami for windsurfing, kiteboarding, and stand-up paddleboarding — the consistent bay breezes and flat water create ideal conditions. Several water sports rental shops operate right on the beach, making it easy to try windsurfing or kiteboarding for the first time. The shallow water and soft sandy bottom also make it surprisingly good for families with small children. The beach has a casual, local vibe with picnic tables, portable restrooms, and a food truck or two on weekends. The views across the bay toward the Miami skyline and Key Biscayne are stunning, especially at sunset. Parking is available along the causeway ($2 toll to cross the Rickenbacker). Hobie Island is a unique Miami beach experience that feels completely different from the Atlantic-facing beaches — more like a tropical lagoon than a traditional beach.
